Quick Answer

Pickpocketing in Assassin’s Creed Mirage uses a quick-time event where you press the steal button a second time while a shrinking diamond lands inside the blue success zone. Successful steals reward Dirhams, trinkets, keys, or valuable Favor Tokens.

The easiest way to steal without failing is enabling Guaranteed Pickpocket in the gameplay settings. You can also unlock the Pickpocket Master skill to widen the timing window or use Sleep Darts to loot unconscious targets without triggering the mini-game.

Using Eagle Vision helps identify valuable targets quickly since rare loot carriers glow gold instead of white.

How Pickpocketing Works In Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Pickpocketing is one of the core stealth mechanics in Assassin’s Creed Mirage. It allows Basim to steal money, quest items, keys, trinkets, and special faction tokens directly from NPCs without killing them.

Most pickpocket attempts trigger a small quick-time event that tests your timing. Failing the mini-game alerts nearby guards or civilians and can increase your Notoriety level.

While it sounds simple, pickpocketing becomes extremely useful throughout the game for contracts, collectibles, disguise routes, and token farming.

How To Start Pickpocketing

Approach a target slowly from behind or while they are distracted.

When close enough, a prompt appears allowing you to begin the theft. On most systems this is:

  • PC: E
  • PlayStation: Triangle
  • Xbox: Y

Once activated, the pickpocket mini-game immediately begins.

How The Pickpocket QTE Works

After starting the theft, a large diamond appears on-screen with a smaller blue success zone in the middle.

The outer white diamond rapidly shrinks toward the center. Press the pickpocket button again exactly when the outer shape overlaps the blue zone.

If timed correctly:

  • The icon flashes gold
  • The theft succeeds
  • The target usually stays unaware briefly

If you fail:

  • Civilians may shout for guards
  • Guards become hostile instantly
  • Your Notoriety can increase

The timing window becomes smaller on more alert enemies and guards, making military targets harder to steal from than ordinary civilians.

How To Find Valuable Pickpocket Targets

Use Eagle Vision regularly while exploring Baghdad.

Lootable NPCs glow with pouch icons:

  • White pouches = standard valuables
  • Gold pouches = rare items or tokens

Gold targets are especially important because they often carry:

  • Scholar Tokens
  • Merchant Tokens
  • Power Tokens
  • Quest keys
  • Valuable trinkets

Many infiltration routes are actually easier through pickpocketing than direct combat.

How To Make Pickpocketing Easier

Enable Guaranteed Pickpocket

The easiest solution is turning on Guaranteed Pickpocket in the gameplay settings.

Go to:

OptionsGameplayCombat & StealthGuaranteed Pickpocket

This removes the QTE entirely and guarantees success every time.

If you are farming collectibles or tokens, this setting honestly saves a massive amount of time.

Unlock Pickpocket Master

The Pickpocket Master skill is located in the Trickster skill tree and costs four skill points.

This upgrade:

  • Widens the success window
  • Makes weaker targets easier to steal from
  • Reduces failed attempts significantly

It is one of the best quality-of-life upgrades in the early game if you rely heavily on stealth.

Use Sleep Darts Or Blowdarts

Sleeping targets can be looted safely without triggering the QTE.

Use Blowdarts or sleep-inducing tools before approaching difficult targets. Once unconscious, you can steal from them freely.

This works especially well inside restricted areas filled with guards.

Lower The Difficulty

On lower difficulty settings, the timing diamond becomes larger and slower.

If the QTE feels frustrating, reducing difficulty temporarily makes pickpocketing much more forgiving.

Step-by-Step

  1. Use Eagle Vision to locate a target carrying valuables.
  2. Approach slowly from behind or while the target is distracted.
  3. Press the pickpocket prompt.
  4. Watch the shrinking outer diamond carefully.
  5. Press the button again when it overlaps the blue success zone.
  6. Move away immediately after succeeding.
  7. Blend into crowds or leave the area before the target notices the missing item.

What You Need

  • Eagle Vision
  • Throwing Knives and stealth tools
  • Pickpocket Master skill (optional)
  • Sleep Darts or blowdarts (optional)

Best Strategy

The safest way to steal consistently is approaching targets from rooftops or crowded areas where Basim can immediately blend in afterward.

If you plan on collecting lots of Dervis’ Artifacts or farming tokens, enabling Guaranteed Pickpocket honestly turns one of the game’s most repetitive mechanics into something much smoother.

Warnings

Failing a pickpocket attempt on guards can instantly trigger combat and increase your Notoriety level.

Also, do not stand beside the victim after stealing successfully. Basim may be a master assassin, but apparently nobody taught him how to casually walk away after robbing someone.

Rewards

  • Dirhams
  • Valuable trinkets
  • Scholar Tokens
  • Merchant Tokens
  • Quest keys
  • Easier stealth infiltration routes

Tips

Pickpocketing is surprisingly useful throughout the entire game, especially for stealth-focused players who want cleaner infiltrations without leaving bodies everywhere.

And honestly, watching Basim rob someone perfectly while pretending to casually walk past them never really gets old.

How Investigation Missions Work In Assassin’s Creed Mirage

The investigation system in Assassin’s Creed Mirage works like a detective board instead of a traditional linear quest log. You gather clues through exploration, eavesdropping, pickpocketing, contracts, and stealth missions to slowly uncover the identities and locations of Order of the Ancients targets.

Every clue adds new information to the Investigation Board, unlocking additional leads, side objectives, and eventually the final assassination mission. Most major targets remain hidden behind question marks until enough evidence is collected.

If you ever get stuck, open the Investigation Board and hover over locked nodes to see exactly which clue or activity you still need to complete.

Best Way To Earn Tokens Fast In Assassin’s Creed Mirage

The fastest way to earn Merchant Tokens, Scholar Tokens, and Power Tokens in Assassin’s Creed Mirage is enabling Guaranteed Pickpocketing and farming crowded market districts like Karkh Bazaar or the Round City.

Turn on Eagle Vision to identify NPCs carrying glowing gold pouches, then rapidly steal from targets while moving through crowds. You can also complete Bureau Contracts for guaranteed token rewards and bonus payouts.

If NPCs stop spawning, changing the game difficulty and switching it back instantly refreshes the crowd and creates new pickpocket targets.

How To Unlock Every Hidden One Bureau In Assassin’s Creed Mirage

The Hidden One Bureaus in Assassin’s Creed Mirage unlock naturally as you progress through the main story and investigate targets across Baghdad. Each bureau acts as a Hidden Ones safehouse, fast travel point, contract hub, and story location.

Most bureaus are hidden beneath rooftops rather than accessible from street level. Use Enkidu to scout for the classic Assassin insignia and look for a green rooftop with an opening or skylight you can drop through.

There are four main bureaus in the game located in Harbiyah, Abbasiyah, Karkh, and the Round City. Once you enter a bureau for the first time, it permanently unlocks as a fast travel point.

How To Solve The Observatory Puzzle In Assassin’s Creed Mirage

To solve the Observatory puzzle in Assassin’s Creed Mirage, head behind the building during the A Life’s Work quest and climb onto the movable shelving unit. Use a Throwing Knife through the window to destroy the wooden bar blocking the front door.

Once inside, collect the three missing pages around the Observatory area. One page is inside the building, another blows away and must be chased across nearby rooftops, and the final page is located near the top of the Observatory dome.

Return all three pages to Al-Mahani outside the Observatory to complete the quest and earn a Skill Point.

All Gear Chest Puzzle Solutions In Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Most Gear Chests in Assassin’s Creed Mirage are locked behind environmental puzzles, hidden keys, barred doors, or destructible walls. Common solutions include moving shelves, throwing Throwing Knives through windows to break door bars, and using explosive red jars to destroy fragile walls or floors.

Several chests also require story progression before they become accessible, especially late-game locations in Karkh. Using Eagle Vision regularly helps identify destructible objects, movable shelves, hidden windows, and keys much faster.

The hardest chest puzzles are usually found in Upper Harbor, The Four Markets, House of Wisdom, Dur-Kurigalzu, and Al-Jahiz’s House.

None of the Tales are missable, so you can complete them after finishing the main story.
