Serpenphare Boss Guide
Serpenphare is one of the strongest optional Nevrons found in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Unlike most bosses, this encounter revolves around AP management rather than pure damage output.
The fight can feel overwhelming at first because Serpenphare constantly steals AP, generates shields, and limits your ability to use powerful skills.
Fortunately, once you understand its mechanics, the battle becomes much more manageable.
Where To Find Serpenphare
Serpenphare can only be challenged after unlocking Esquie's flying ability during Act 3.
The boss can be found:
- East of the Forgotten Battlefield
- Between the Boat Graveyard and White Sands
- Behind the Sprong encounter
Since the boss floats high above the water, flying is required to reach it.
Make sure your party is fully prepared before engaging, as this is one of the game's longest optional fights.
How Serpenphare Works
Serpenphare's primary mechanic revolves around stealing AP and protecting itself with shields.
At the beginning of turns, it will often:
- Drain AP from the party
- Generate multiple shields
- Prevent efficient skill usage
This creates a constant resource battle where players must find ways to generate AP faster than Serpenphare can remove it.
Best Team Setup
Maelle
Maelle is arguably the most important character for this encounter.
Her:
- Breaking Rules
- Barrier Breaker
allow her to remove or steal Serpenphare's shields, preventing the fight from dragging on endlessly.
Monoco
Monoco provides excellent support through:
- Cruler Barrier
- Boucheclier Fortify
- Sanctuary
These abilities help keep the team protected while reducing the need for constant healing.
AP Generation Strategy
One of the strongest approaches is creating a chain of AP-generating buffs.
For example:
- Apply Shell.
- Trigger Energising Shell.
- Gain Powerful through Lumina effects.
- Trigger Energising Powerful.
- Gain Rush.
- Trigger Energising Rush.
This setup can generate massive amounts of AP across the entire party and helps offset Serpenphare's AP-draining abilities.
Additional Luminas such as:
- Energising Turn
- Cheater
can further increase action economy and damage output.
The Overload Strategy
A unique mechanic allows players to turn Serpenphare's AP absorption against itself.
If Serpenphare absorbs excessive AP, it eventually becomes overloaded.
When overloaded:
- Serpenphare explodes
- Loses a large portion of HP
- Becomes stunned
This creates one of the biggest damage windows in the encounter.
The explosion itself can be avoided with proper timing, shields, or defensive setups.
Using Anti-Stun can also help prevent the secondary effects.
Is Serpenphare Worth Fighting?
Absolutely.
Many players consider the reward from this encounter one of the strongest Pictos in the entire game.
The battle is difficult, but the rewards easily justify the effort for anyone pursuing endgame builds.
Best Strategy
- Use Maelle to remove Serpenphare's shields.
- Keep Monoco focused on defensive support and buff generation.
- Build AP through Lumina chains to offset AP drain.
- Exploit Serpenphare's overload mechanic whenever possible.
Rewards
- Energy Master Pictos
- Perfect Chroma Catalyst x1
- Grandiose Chroma Catalyst x3
- Recoat x1
- 22,240 Chroma
- 1,950,000 XP
- A On Achievement
Tips
- Don't panic when Serpenphare steals AP, as strong AP-generation builds can easily recover.
- Shield removal is more important than raw damage.
- The overload explosion creates one of the best damage opportunities in the fight.
- Bring endgame builds and expect the battle to last significantly longer than most optional encounters.
