Chromatic Greatsword Cultist Boss Guide
The Chromatic Greatsword Cultist is one of the strongest optional bosses found during your journey through Sirene. Unlike many overworld optional bosses, this encounter is hidden inside a story dungeon and can easily be missed.
Its combination of high damage, massive health, and frequent shield generation makes it significantly more dangerous than standard Greatsword Cultists.
Where To Find The Chromatic Greatsword Cultist
The boss is located inside Sirene.
As you progress through the area, you'll eventually reach the section near Expedition 55 Journal.
Instead of continuing forward, head through the archway opposite the journal location.
Follow the path downward, ride the floating platform across, and take the left route when you reach the next section.
The Chromatic Greatsword Cultist will immediately engage once you approach.
Make sure your party is healed before entering the fight.
Boss Weaknesses And Resistances
Before building your strategy, it's important to understand the boss's elemental traits.
Weakness
- Dark
Resistance
- Light
Special Defense
- Frequently applies multiple shields
Dark-focused teams perform significantly better during this encounter.
How To Beat The Chromatic Greatsword Cultist
The biggest challenge is dealing with the boss's shields.
At times, it can apply as many as nine shields to itself, allowing it to completely absorb incoming attacks until those shields are removed.
The best counter is Maelle's Breaking Rules.
This skill removes all active shields instantly while dealing significant damage, allowing the rest of your party to capitalize on the opening.
Once the shields are gone, focus on maximizing damage before the boss can rebuild its defenses.
Best Team Strategy
Sciel performs exceptionally well because of the boss's weakness to Dark damage.
If possible, equip Dark-based weapons and skills across multiple party members.
After removing the shields:
- Use Dark attacks with Sciel.
- Follow up with Verso.
- Use multi-hit abilities whenever possible.
Verso's Blitz attacks are especially useful because they generate additional pressure and extra actions.
Phantom Stars also performs well thanks to its multiple hits.
Watch For Delayed Sword Combos
The Chromatic Greatsword Cultist frequently attacks the entire party with long sword combinations.
The most dangerous attack is a six-hit combo that includes small pauses midway through the sequence.
Many players dodge too early because the rhythm changes during the second half of the attack.
Pay attention to the pauses and avoid rushing your inputs.
The boss also uses a jumping attack against a single target, though this attack is generally easier to dodge or parry than the large combo strings.
Is The Fight Worth It?
Absolutely.
The boss rewards one of Verso's strongest weapons available at this stage of the game along with valuable upgrade materials and experience.
If you're already exploring Sirene thoroughly, this encounter is well worth the effort.
Best Strategy
- Bring Sciel and Dark-element attacks.
- Use Breaking Rules whenever the boss applies shields.
- Avoid using Light-based attacks.
- Save your strongest damage abilities for after the shields are removed.
Rewards
- Sireso for Verso
- Resplendent Chroma Catalyst x2
- Colour of Lumina x5
- 5,288 Chroma
- 81,090 XP
Tips
- The boss becomes much easier once you stop its shield cycles.
- Watch for delayed timing during the six-hit combo.
- Multi-hit attacks perform well after shield removal.
- Heal before approaching the boss because the fight begins immediately when spotted.
