How Vehicle Ownership Works In Cyberpunk 2077

Vehicles are one of the fastest ways to travel around Night City, but unlike many open-world games, you cannot permanently keep a car simply by stealing it.

Only vehicles that are purchased, gifted through quests, or awarded as mission rewards become part of your personal collection. Once owned, they can be summoned to your location whenever you need them.

When New Vehicles Become Available

Vehicle purchases do not unlock immediately.

After your starting vehicle is destroyed during the early stages of Act 2, the game's vehicle marketplace opens up. This event also starts the Epistrophy side job and marks the point where Fixers begin contacting you with vehicle offers.

If you are still in the prologue or early story sections, you will need to continue progressing before any vehicle offers become available.

How To Unlock More Vehicle Offers

Every district in Night City has its own Fixer.

As you drive through different districts and establish contact with these Fixers, they will periodically send messages advertising vehicles for sale. The more areas you explore, the more purchase options become available.

Driving around the city is one of the fastest ways to trigger new vehicle offers.

How To Buy Vehicles

When a Fixer offers you a vehicle, it is automatically added to your journal under the Rides category.

To purchase a vehicle:

  1. Open your journal.
  2. Select the desired vehicle under Rides.
  3. Track the objective.
  4. Travel to the vehicle's location.
  5. Interact with it.
  6. Purchase the vehicle when prompted.

Once purchased, the vehicle becomes permanently available and can be summoned at any time.

Can You Keep Stolen Cars?

No.

While you can temporarily drive almost any vehicle you find around Night City, stolen vehicles cannot be added to your collection.

Even if you drive a vehicle for hours, it cannot be stored, recalled, or permanently owned unless it was purchased or earned through gameplay.

Free Vehicles

Not every vehicle requires a purchase.

The Heroes side job can reward you with a free motorcycle during Act 2. This is one of the earliest ways to expand your vehicle collection without spending any Eurodollars.

Several other missions throughout the game can also reward vehicles as you progress through the story and side content.

Vehicle Costs

Most vehicles sold by Fixers are expensive.

Many cars cost well over 10,000 Eurodollars, while higher-end vehicles can cost significantly more. If you're planning to build a large garage, expect to spend a substantial amount of money throughout your playthrough.

Saving up before shopping can prevent some painful wallet damage later.

  5. Open the Rides section in your journal.
  6. Track the vehicle you want.
  7. Visit its location.
  8. Purchase the vehicle.
  9. Summon it whenever needed.

Best Strategy

  • Progress into Act 2 as quickly as possible.
  • Complete Heroes early to earn a free motorcycle.
  • Explore every district to unlock additional Fixers and vehicle offers.
  • Save your money before buying luxury vehicles.
  • Focus on vehicles you actually plan to use rather than buying every car immediately.

Rewards

  • Permanent access to purchased vehicles.
  • Ability to summon owned vehicles anywhere.
  • Access to faster transportation across Night City.
  • Free motorcycle reward from the Heroes side job.

Tips

  • The parking lot outside Lizzie's Bar is a good place to grab a temporary vehicle while waiting for your own collection to grow.
  • Don't panic when your starting car is destroyed. The game is designed to open vehicle ownership shortly afterward.
  • Some of the coolest rides in the game are earned through quests, so don't ignore side jobs.
