How The Tornado Final Boss Fight Works

The final boss encounter in Alan Wake Remastered pits Alan against the massive tornado manifestation of the Dark Presence above Diver's Isle.

At first, the fight can seem confusing because there is no obvious enemy body or traditional weak point. Instead, the tornado is protected by a massive shell of swirling possessed objects that must be destroyed before you can damage its core.

The fight is more about positioning, movement, and proper Flare Gun usage than raw combat skill.

Move Across The Bridge Carefully

As you approach the tornado, the bridge becomes blocked by possessed debris and flying objects.

Use your flashlight to destroy:

  • Possessed vehicles
  • Flying debris
  • Shadow-covered obstacles
  • Objects blocking the bridge path

Continue pushing forward slowly toward the tornado while avoiding getting knocked into the void below.

At one point you must jump across a broken bridge section. Wait carefully before jumping because objects will occasionally sweep through the gap and can easily knock Alan off the platform.

Grab The Unlimited Flare Gun Ammo

As you move closer to the tornado, you will find supply crates containing unlimited Flare Gun ammo.

This is extremely important because the Flare Gun is the only weapon capable of heavily damaging the tornado itself.

Do not waste time conserving ammo during this encounter. Reload freely and keep grabbing additional flare rounds whenever needed.

The fight becomes much easier once you realize the game basically hands you infinite supernatural fireworks for the finale.

Destroy The Tornado's Outer Shell

Once close enough, you will finally see the heart of the tornado surrounded by a rotating shield of debris and possessed objects.

To break the shield:

  • Move close to the edge of the bridge
  • Aim directly at the swirling object shell
  • Fire flare shots into the rotating barrier
  • Continue destroying the protective debris

Distance matters here. If you fire from too far away, the flare shots will not properly damage the tornado shield.

Stay aggressive and keep moving closer whenever possible.

Attack The Heart Of The Dark Presence

After the outer shell breaks apart, the glowing core of the tornado becomes vulnerable.

Now:

  • Fire direct Flare Gun shots into the center
  • Watch for large bursts of light confirming damage
  • Continue firing until the tornado collapses

Usually around 3 to 5 flare shots are enough to destroy the core completely.

You will know the attacks are working because the game gives strong visual flashes and loud audio feedback after successful hits.

Watch Out For Bird Swarms

Throughout the fight, swarms of dark birds attack Alan while crossing the bridge.

The birds themselves usually do not deal massive damage, but they can:

  • Interrupt movement
  • Push Alan backward
  • Knock him off the bridge
  • Create panic during jumps

If birds get too close, quickly destroy them before continuing your push toward the tornado.

Falling into the void is honestly a much bigger threat here than the boss itself.

Tornado Wrangler Trophy

Defeating the tornado unlocks the Tornado Wrangler trophy and triggers the final ending sequence of Alan Wake Remastered.

The fight is actually simpler than several earlier encounters once you understand the strategy, but the giant supernatural tornado screaming over Bright Falls definitely makes for one of the most memorable finales in the game.

Because apparently Remedy looked at normal final bosses and decided "what if the weather itself wanted you dead instead?"

Video

Step-by-Step

  1. Advance toward the tornado across the bridge
  2. Destroy possessed objects blocking the path
  3. Pick up unlimited Flare Gun ammo from crates
  4. Carefully jump the broken bridge section
  5. Move close enough to see the tornado core
  6. Fire flare shots into the rotating debris shell
  7. Destroy the outer shield completely
  8. Fire direct flare shots into the glowing heart
  9. Continue attacking until the tornado collapses

Best Strategy

  • Destroy possessed bridge objects immediately
  • Stay near the center of the bridge whenever possible
  • Use unlimited flare ammo aggressively
  • Move close before firing at the tornado shell
  • Kill bird swarms before attempting risky jumps

Warnings

Firing the Flare Gun from too far away will not properly damage the tornado shield. You must move surprisingly close to the edge of the bridge for your shots to work consistently.

Rewards

  • Tornado Wrangler trophy
  • Completion of the main story
  • Final ending sequence

Tips

The final boss looks terrifying at first, but once you realize the strategy is basically "walk forward and launch supernatural fireworks directly into the apocalypse," the fight becomes way more manageable.
