How To Start The Dung Eater Quest
The Dung Eater first appears inside the locked room near the Twin Maiden Husks in the Roundtable Hold. His door only opens after reaching the Altus Plateau.
You can reach the plateau by:
- Using the Grand Lift of Dectus
- Climbing through the Ruin-Strewn Precipice
Once there, return to the Roundtable Hold and speak with him.
Obtain Your First Seedbed Curse
You need at least one Seedbed Curse before the quest properly progresses, but you eventually need five total to finish the storyline.
Two easy early curses are located in Leyndell, Royal Capital.
East Capital Rampart Seedbed Curse
From the East Capital Rampart Site of Grace:
- Follow the main city path past the enemies
- Ride the lift downward
- Enter the nearby room with a Perfumer
- Climb the ladder and staircase
- Loot the corpse tied to the chair
Fortified Manor Seedbed Curse
Inside the Fortified Manor, locate the room mirroring the Dung Eater’s chamber in the real Roundtable Hold.
The curse is found inside that room.
After collecting one, return to the Dung Eater.
Free The Dung Eater
After showing him a Seedbed Curse, he gives you the Sewer-Gaol Key and asks you to free his real body beneath the capital.
To reach the sewers:
- Start at the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace
- Head outside and turn left
- Drop into the lower plaza area
- Find the well leading underground
This takes you into the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds.
Progress through the area until reaching the Underground Roadside Site of Grace.
From there:
- Head left toward the Omens
- Drop into the hole
- Move through the rat tunnels
- Climb the ladder
- Defeat or avoid the Fingercreepers
The prison cell is directly ahead.
Use the Sewer-Gaol Key to free him.
Do not kill him here if you want to complete the questline.
Outer Moat Invasion
Return to the Roundtable Hold after freeing him. A message inside his room tells you to visit the outer moat near Leyndell.
Before continuing, you should move Blackguard Big Boggart to the moat area.
First:
- Meet him at the Boilprawn Shack in Liurnia
- Buy his items
- Exhaust his dialogue
Later, find him near the moat outside Leyndell and speak to him repeatedly.
Eventually, return to find Boggart dying after being attacked by the Dung Eater. Loot the nearby Seedbed Curse and prepare for an invasion fight.
The Dung Eater invades shortly after.
Fortunately, he is far less terrifying in combat than he is in conversation.
Feed The Seedbed Curses
After defeating the invasion, speak to the phantom version of the Dung Eater again at the Roundtable Hold. He asks you to feed Seedbed Curses to his real body back in the sewers.
At this point, you need five total curses.
Additional locations include:
Volcano Manor Seedbed Curse
From the Temple of Eiglay Site of Grace:
- Move toward the Rykard teleporter
- Enter the Stonesword Key fog area
- Drop downward to find the corpse
Haligtree Seedbed Curse 1
From the Prayer Room Site of Grace in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree:
- Follow the northern route
- Jump onto the narrow walkways
- Reach the seated corpse on the ledge
Haligtree Seedbed Curse 2
Again from the Prayer Room:
- Continue downward instead of jumping early
- Reach the room with Cleanrot Knights
- Drop onto the eastern walkway
- Descend the stairs carefully
- Loot the corpse behind the pillar
The enemies here are extremely dangerous, especially the Revenants.
Seluvis Potion Alternative
If you still possess Seluvis’ Potion, you can give it to the Dung Eater instead of completing his storyline normally.
This prematurely ends the quest but unlocks the ability to purchase the Dung Eater Puppet Spirit Ash later.
Most players only choose this route during specific build or collection runs.
Final Reward And Ending
Once you deliver five Seedbed Curses to the imprisoned Dung Eater, you receive the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse.
This unlocks an alternate ending during the final moments of Elden Ring.
Reloading the area afterward also grants the full Omen Armor Set.
Congratulations. You successfully helped one of the most horrifying NPCs ever written achieve his dream. Truly a classic FromSoftware experience.
Step-by-Step
- Reach the Altus Plateau
- Speak to the Dung Eater in the Roundtable Hold
- Collect at least one Seedbed Curse
- Return to him and receive the Sewer-Gaol Key
- Enter the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds
- Free the Dung Eater
- Visit the outer moat near Leyndell
- Defeat the Dung Eater invasion
- Collect five total Seedbed Curses
- Feed the curses to the imprisoned Dung Eater
- Receive the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse
Warnings
- Killing the Dung Eater inside his prison immediately ends the questline.
- You need access to the Haligtree for all five required Seedbed Curses.
- The Subterranean Shunning-Grounds are confusing and filled with dangerous enemies.
- The outer moat invasion can become chaotic if nearby giant crabs join the fight.
Rewards
- Mending Rune of the Fell Curse
- Alternate ending unlock
- Omen Armor Set
- Additional Seedbed Curses
- Optional Dung Eater Puppet Spirit Ash through the Seluvis route
Tips
- Bring fire damage into the sewers since Fingercreepers panic when burned.
- The sewer layout is easy to get lost in, so activate every Site of Grace you find.
- Buy crab from Blackguard Big Boggart before progressing the invasion sequence unless you enjoy emotional damage.
- Save the Haligtree curses for late game since that area is brutally difficult.

All NPC Questlines In Elden Ring
Elden Ring contains nearly 30 major NPC questlines, many of which unlock alternate endings, hidden regions, legendary rewards, Spirit Ashes, and important lore revelations.
Because the game has no quest tracker, several NPC storylines can permanently fail if you progress too far. The biggest point of no return happens after defeating the Fire Giant and activating the Forge of the Giants.
Bosses & Combat
How To Defeat Margit The Fell Omen In Elden Ring
To defeat Margit The Fell Omen in Elden Ring, you should ideally be around level 25 with a weapon upgraded to at least +3. Prioritize leveling Vigor, use Spirit Ashes like the Lone Wolves or Spirit Jellyfish, and summon Sorcerer Rogier outside the boss gate for extra pressure.
Margit is designed to punish panic rolling with delayed attacks, so wait until his weapon actually starts swinging before dodging. Bleed weapons like the Uchigatana or Reduva work extremely well and can remove huge chunks of his health quickly.
Bosses & Combat
How To Defeat Godrick The Grafted In Elden Ring
To defeat Godrick The Grafted in Elden Ring, you should be around level 35-40 with at least 20 Vigor and a weapon upgraded to +4 or higher. Use Nepheli Loux and Spirit Ashes to split his aggro while punishing his long recovery animations with jumping heavy attacks.
During Phase 1, roll into his axe swings instead of backward and jump over his earthquake shockwaves. In Phase 2, stay close during his fire breath attacks to avoid damage and punish him with free hits while he is locked into long animations.
