Margit The Fell Omen Boss Guide
Margit The Fell Omen is the first major skill check in Elden Ring and the boss that teaches players one of the game’s biggest lessons. Panic rolling gets punished hard here. If you rush straight to Stormveil Castle immediately after starting the game, there is a good chance Margit is going to flatten you a few times first.
The good news is you are not expected to beat him immediately. Exploring Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula first makes this fight dramatically easier and gives you access to stronger weapons, more healing, and better Spirit Ashes.
Recommended Level And Preparation
Before fighting Margit, it helps to have:
- Around level 25
- A weapon upgraded to at least +3
- Higher Vigor for survivability
- At least one strong Spirit Ash summon
Bleed damage is extremely effective during this fight. Weapons like the Uchigatana or Reduva can trigger hemorrhage quickly and remove massive chunks of his health bar.
You should also grab Margit’s Shackle from Patches inside Murkwater Cave. This reusable item temporarily binds Margit to the ground during phase one and gives you free damage opportunities.
Summons And Spirit Ashes
Right outside the fog gate you can summon Sorcerer Rogier. His damage is decent, but the real benefit is splitting Margit’s attention so you can heal or land jump attacks safely.
Good Spirit Ash choices include:
- Lone Wolf Ashes
- Spirit Jellyfish
Let your summons pull aggro first, then move in for quick attacks or jumping heavy attacks before backing away again.
How To Dodge Margit’s Attacks
Margit’s biggest trick is delayed timing. He often raises his weapon and pauses far longer than most players expect before swinging.
Do not dodge early.
Wait until the attack is actually moving toward you, then dodge into the attack instead of away from it. Rolling forward usually places you near his staff side and avoids his sweeping tail attack.
Most of your damage opportunities come after:
- Long hammer slams
- Staff ground attacks
- Leaping attacks
- Extended combo finishers
Do not get greedy. One or two hits is usually enough before backing off again.
Second Phase Strategy
At around half health, Margit gains glowing holy weapons including a massive hammer and holy sword. His range increases significantly and his combos become more aggressive.
The delayed jumping hammer slam is especially dangerous if you panic roll backward.
Stay patient and continue punishing only his longest recovery animations. Jump attacks and heavy attacks can eventually break his posture, opening him up for a critical riposte attack.
Once you learn his delayed rhythm, the fight becomes much more manageable. Almost every Elden Ring player gets humbled by Margit at first, so do not worry if this boss takes a few attempts.

What You Need
- Recommended level around 25
- Weapon upgraded to at least +3

- Spirit Ashes
- Optional bleed weapon
- Optional Margit’s Shackle
Best Strategy
The safest strategy is to let Sorcerer Rogier and your Spirit Ashes distract Margit while you punish his recovery animations with jump attacks or bleed weapons.
Do not spam dodge rolls. Wait for the actual attack swing before rolling into his attacks. Patience matters more than aggression in this fight.
Rewards
- Talisman Pouch
- Access to Stormveil Castle
- Progression toward the main story
Tips
If Margit feels impossible, leave and explore more first. Elden Ring is designed around exploration, and coming back stronger makes this fight dramatically easier.
Also, almost everyone gets destroyed by Margit the first time. Welcome to Elden Ring.
