How The Piano Minigame Works
The piano minigame in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth becomes fully available during Chapter 4 after meeting Dorian in Crow’s Nest.
To unlock the piano system:
- Complete the When Words Won’t Do side quest
- Speak with Dorian
- Interact with the nearby piano
From there, you can collect additional sheet music throughout the game and return to any piano to perform songs.
Earning at least an A-Rank on each piece rewards special materia from Dorian.
Thankfully, you do not need a perfect score. A few missed notes are completely fine as long as your overall rhythm stays consistent.

This is the first proper piano song most players learn and acts as the tutorial piece for the entire minigame.
Tifa’s Theme

Royal Coast Hotel in Costa del Sol
How To Unlock
Available during Chapter 6 while progressing through the main story.
A-Rank Reward
Level 2 MP Up Materia
You must return to Dorian later to claim the reward since he is not present in Costa del Sol initially.
Barret’s Theme

A-Rank Reward
Level 2 Warding Materia
This is one of the easier songs to A-Rank thanks to its slower pacing and consistent rhythm.
Cinco De Chocobo

Found inside a house on the eastern side of the river during Chapter 9.
A-Rank Reward
Steadfast Block Materia
The song itself is much more chaotic than the earlier tracks. Fitting, honestly.

A-Rank Reward
Empowerment Materia
Dorian is standing near the piano here, making reward turn-ins much easier.
Aerith’s Theme
Location
Tifa’s House in Nibelheim
How To Unlock
Obtained during the My White-Haired Angel side quest in Chapter 11.
A-Rank Reward
Level 3 Binding Materia
This is one of the more emotional songs in the collection and also one of the trickier tracks to master consistently.
Let The Battles Begin!

Unlocked through Dorian
How To Unlock
Earn an A-Rank on all six previous piano songs, then speak with Dorian.
Reward
Level 4 Healing Materia and a piano collectible
This acts as the game’s completion reward for mastering the standard piano song list.
One-Winged Angel
Location
Johnny’s Seaside Inn in Costa del Sol
How To Unlock
Complete all 88 collectibles in Johnny’s Treasure Trove.
After full Treasure Trove completion, open the red chest behind Johnny to obtain the secret sheet music.
Reward
No gameplay reward
The reward is honestly just the satisfaction of playing one of the most iconic boss themes in gaming history while Cloud aggressively slams piano keys for five minutes.
Piano Rewards Overview
A-Ranking every standard piano song rewards:
- HP Up Materia
- MP Up Materia
- Warding Materia
- Steadfast Block Materia
- Empowerment Materia
- Binding Materia
- Healing Materia
These rewards are surprisingly valuable throughout the game, especially during harder simulator battles and endgame content.
Best Tips For Getting A-Ranks
If you struggle with the piano minigame:
- lower controller sensitivity slightly
- focus on rhythm instead of visual perfection
- use headphones for audio timing
- practice one hand at a time mentally before attempting full runs
Most songs become dramatically easier after a few attempts once you stop staring directly at every note.
Except maybe One-Winged Angel. That one still feels like Sephiroth personally hates your thumbs.
