Full Guide
Protorelics are one of the biggest World Intel questlines in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and are tied to several trophies, Chadley progression, powerful transmutation rewards, and the Gilgamesh superboss.
Each region contains 4 Phenomenon Intel objectives. Completing all 4 in a region unlocks that region’s Protorelic and progresses the overall questline.
Grasslands Phenomenon Intel Locations
The Grasslands Phenomenon Intel chain is located in the northeast part of the region and revolves around tracking Beck’s bandit group.
These are the first Protorelic objectives in the game and mostly focus on combat encounters and investigation sequences designed to introduce the system.
Junon Phenomenon Intel Locations
Junon’s Protorelic chain is found near the southern tip of the region east of a Chocobo Stop.
This region introduces the Fort Condor tactical battles. You will need to complete multiple strategy-based encounters to finish all 4 Phenomenon Intel objectives.
Corel Phenomenon Intel Locations
Corel’s Protorelic content unlocks later during Chapter 9 in the southern part of the region.
This area focuses heavily on the Cactuar Crush minigame. You’ll interact with Cactuar statues and complete score-based combat challenges to progress through all intel steps.
Gongaga Phenomenon Intel Locations
Gongaga’s Protorelic activities are located in the southernmost area of the map and feature Turks combat training battles.
These encounters become noticeably tougher than earlier regions and are easier if your party setup is already optimized.
Cosmo Canyon Phenomenon Intel Locations
Cosmo Canyon’s Phenomenon Intel chain is found in the southwestern section of the region.
These quests introduce a gambit-style battle minigame focused more on tactical setups and timing than direct combat strength.
Nibel Phenomenon Intel Locations
Nibel’s Protorelic chain takes place across ocean areas and follows mysterious robed men connected to the story.
Several objectives involve boat travel and late-game combat encounters tied to the region’s progression.
Meridian Ocean Final Protorelic
After completing all 24 regional Phenomenon Intel objectives, a final Protorelic quest becomes available in the Meridian Ocean.
This unlocks the Gilgamesh superboss encounter and concludes the entire Protorelic questline.
Defeating Gilgamesh is required for the Bladesman of Legend trophy and unlocks some of the strongest late-game rewards in FF7 Rebirth.
None of the Protorelic activities are missable. Everything can still be completed through Chapter Select after finishing the story.
Step-by-Step
Complete all 4 Grasslands Phenomenon Intel objectives.
Finish all Fort Condor battles in Junon.
Progress the story to Chapter 9 and complete Corel’s Cactuar Crush activities.
Clear the Gongaga Turks training battles.
Finish the Cosmo Canyon gambit-style encounters.
Complete all Nibel ocean-based Phenomenon Intel quests.
Travel to the Meridian Ocean after all 24 regional objectives are complete.
Defeat Gilgamesh to finish the Protorelic questline.
What You Need
Most regions require story progression before their Phenomenon Intel quests become available. Corel unlocks later in Chapter 9, while some late-game regions require access from Chapters 11 and 12 onward.
Best Strategy
Save most Protorelic cleanup for Chapter 13 when the full world map becomes available. This lets you complete every region in one run with stronger materia, better party builds, and fast travel unlocked everywhere.
Warnings
Several Phenomenon Intel chains are story locked and will not appear immediately when entering a region. Corel and Nibel especially require significant story progression first.
Missables
None. Every Protorelic and Phenomenon Intel objective can still be completed after the story through Chapter Select.
Rewards
Completing all Protorelics unlocks the Gilgamesh superboss encounter, advanced transmutation recipes, Chadley rewards, and multiple trophies including Bladesman of Legend, Honorary Turk, and Fort Condor Commander.
Tips
Corel’s Cactuar Crush objectives can be frustrating early on. Use wide-range attacks and pressure-focused abilities to build score quickly and maintain combos above the 1,000-point requirement.
