How Lifespring Crystal Puzzles Work
Lifespring Crystals are hidden throughout the open-world regions of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and act as a major part of the World Intel system. Every puzzle follows the same core mechanic, so once you understand the rhythm timing, the rest become much easier to clear quickly.
Follow The Mako Owl
When you get close to a nearby crystal, a glowing Mako Owl appears and starts chirping loudly. Follow the owl carefully as it flies directly toward the hidden crystal location.
Some crystals are hidden behind cliffs, caves, or elevated terrain, especially later in the game around Cosmo Canyon and Gongaga.
How To Solve The Crystal Pulse Minigame
After interacting with the crystal, Chadley activates a scanning sequence that starts a timing-based memory puzzle.
You must:
- Watch the expanding circular pulse
- Wait for it to reach the outer ring
- Press Triangle exactly on impact
- Repeat the timing successfully three times in a row
The rhythm changes slightly with each attempt, but the timing window is forgiving once you understand the pacing.
If the visuals feel distracting, focus on the audio cue instead. The pulse creates a distinct chiming sound that often makes the timing easier to hit consistently.
What Lifespring Crystals Unlock
Completing Lifespring puzzles expands regional exploration and unlocks additional World Intel activities.
Rewards include:
- Excavation Intel locations
- Classified Fiends
- crafting materials
- regional lore entries
- progression toward summon intel completion
Many of these activities eventually connect to stronger summons, rare crafting items, and endgame combat challenges.
From Whence Life Flows Lifespring Locations
The From Whence Life Flows side quest becomes available after reaching Cosmo Canyon. During the quest, Bugenhagen asks you to survey five special Lifespring stations throughout the region.
Several of these locations include enemy attacks where you must protect the station gates. Failing to defend all gates lowers your completion rating and reduces affection gains with Red XIII.
Lifespring Survey Station No. 1
Located south of Cosmo Canyon on the lower ground level beneath the main settlement area.
Lifespring Survey Station No. 2
Found near one of the nearby Protorelic ruins. Follow the narrow northern cliffside path to reach the station safely.
Lifespring Survey Station No. 3
Hidden inside a cave beneath ruined structures. Descend from the cliffs north of Survey Station No. 2 and continue straight toward the cave opening.
Lifespring Survey Station No. 4
Visible from the central ground-level section of Cosmo Canyon and fairly easy to access compared to the others.
Lifespring Survey Station No. 5
This is the trickiest station in the quest and requires multiple gliding routes.
Start by climbing west toward Gliding Range No. 6. Glide across to the opposite cliff, continue forward to Gliding Range No. 7, and cross again. After landing, head up the stairs and use Gliding Range No. 13 followed by Gliding Range No. 14 to continue across the canyon. Once you land on the final cliffside, follow the dirt path directly to the Lifespring station.
Why Lifesprings Matter
Although the puzzles themselves are simple, Lifesprings are one of the most important exploration systems in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. They unlock some of the game’s best optional content while helping fill out regional intel completion for trophies, summons, and endgame progression.
Thankfully, once the rhythm timing clicks, these puzzles become much faster than they first appear. Chadley still talks too much though.

Folio System Guide: Best Skills and Stat Boosts to Unlock First
The best early Folio upgrades in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are Synergy Skills, Synergy Abilities, ATB Charge boosts, and core offensive or defensive stat nodes. Synergy Skills are especially important because they cost no ATB and help both characters build resources quickly during combat.
Strong early unlocks include Firework Blade for Cloud, Synchro Cyclone for Tifa, Iron Defense for Barret, and Divine Punishment for Aerith. Prioritizing HP, Attack Power, Magic Attack, and ATB-related nodes early makes combat significantly smoother while helping you pressure enemies and stagger bosses faster.
